Contactless and Convenient Ways to Pay

October 20, 2021
Have you used your phone to complete a payment recently? If you have, you know how convenient and easy it is to do. Using a contactless way to pay has become increasingly popular and according to a recent report, more than 83% of respondents used contactless checkout in the past year. As contactless and digital payment methods continue to thrive, Middlesex has a number of products and services to help you conveniently and securely complete your next purchase.

Why you should consider contactless payment methods if you haven’t already
There are a number of contactless payment methods that can include tapping a credit or debit card at checkout, sending and receiving phone-based payments, using a digital wallet on your mobile device, or scanning a QR code.
  • Convenience:
    • No need to fumble through your wallet for your card or cash at the checkout. By tapping your card, contactless payment technology allows you to make purchases without exchanging cash or checks, touching a payment terminal, swiping your card or handing it to another person to complete a payment.
    • Need to split a dinner bill with a friend or send money to a family member? There are multiple ways to send secure payments using your smartphone.
  • Easy-to-Use: Simple and quick to use or set up in some instances.
  • Secure: A well-documented benefit, contactless payments reduce the risk of encountering a card skimmer, and each contactless transaction is authenticated to avoid fraudulent purchases. Additionally, Middlesex uses Fraud Alert to continuously monitor debit card activity. If suspicious charges appear on your debit card, our Fraud Alert Service may phone you directly on our behalf to confirm the charges.
Contactless payment methods from Middlesex Savings Bank
  1. Digital wallet: After you add your Middlesex Savings Bank Mastercard® to the digital wallet on your compatible Apple®, Android™ and/or Samsung® device, just tap or slide your smartphone against the checkout terminal to pay. Learn more about setting up a digital wallet with your debit card.
  2. Contactless Debit Cards: Pay anywhere you see the contactless symbol at checkout. The “tap to pay” feature on your contactless card allows you to make quick, easy payments in seconds. Contactless cards use the same trusted security as chip cards. Each transaction is protected by dynamic encryption that protects your payment information.
  3. Person-to-Person (P2P) Payment: Also known as P2P Payment, you can send or receive money from your smartphone using the P2P service within Middlesex’s online and mobile banking app. It’s the convenient way to transfer funds from your bank account to almost anyone else's.
  4. Sending and receiving money with mobile payment services like Zelle® and Venmo® using a Middlesex Savings Bank debit card: Use your debit card with popular money transfer apps. To get started, download the app of your choice to your phone and use your Middlesex Savings debit card as the funding source. As a security measure, you should only pay people that you know.
  5. Pairing your debit card with an in-app QR code: Use a particular merchant’s app to pay for your morning coffee? You can add your Middlesex Savings Bank debit card as the funding source directly within the app or may be able to link the card automatically once you’ve added it to your smartphone’s digital wallet.
