Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation is proud to be among several MetroWest-based organizations that will continue to support Lovin’ Spoonfuls, a Boston-based nonprofit food rescue organization, and their continued operations in MetroWest from 2019 through 2021.
With more than $300,000 in combined-funding provided by the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation, the MetroWest Health Foundation, the Sudbury Foundation, and the Foundation for MetroWest, the truck - affectionately known as ‘Mamie ’- and its food rescue coordinator, Anthony Summa, will continue on the road for another three years.
Starting in 2016, the support of these four foundations paved a path forward for Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ first expansion route into MetroWest from Greater Boston. Three years later, Mamie and Anthony have rescued more than 1.1M pounds of food that would have otherwise been discarded.

Hunger insecurity is a persistent issue and Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ approach to food rescue has provided much needed food for those living within our communities.”
Operating throughout the communities of Framingham, Natick, Ashland, Medway, Bellingham, Marlborough, Northborough, Westborough, Southborough, Milford, and Sudbury, the MetroWest route rescues more than 9,700 pounds of fresh produce, dairy, proteins, and prepared foods from grocery stores in the region each week. The food is distributed same-day to 24 non-profit organizations, including the Natick Service Council, A Place to Turn, a number of SMOC shelters, Sudbury Senior Center, and others.
