Middlesex Pledges $250,000 to MetroWest YMCA Capital Campaign

February 07, 2019
Middlesex has pledged a $250,000 financial gift to support the MetroWest YMCA’s Heart of the CommUNITY Campaign. This level of commitment makes Middlesex the lead sponsor of the campaign, which seeks to fund a transformational renovation to the YMCA in Framingham.

Announced in November of 2018, the planned $8 million project provides an additional 7,800 SF of space and includes:
  • Expansion and complete renovation of the YMCA’s Early Learning Center, bringing the licensed center’s capacity to 100 children;
  • Addition of a new kitchen helping the YMCA to address food insecurity in the region while providing healthy food for children in its programs;
  • Expansion of the gym, providing exciting multi-purpose space for functional training and youth programming;
  • Upgrades to the pool environmental controls and repairing the pool deck;
  • New group exercise space;
  • Relocation of an after-school care site;
  • Upgrades to the building’s mechanicals and controls.

According to Mike McAuliffe, President and CEO of Middlesex Savings Bank, “Middlesex is proud to take the lead in supporting the MetroWest YMCA’s campaign to build out and improve an important resource for individuals, families and children in the area. The Bank is a long-time supporter of the MetroWest YMCA and we look forward to seeing this project come to life.”

With this current pledge, the Bank’s total giving to the MetroWest YMCA reaches nearly $500,000 over the past 20 years.

“We are grateful for our partnership with Middlesex Savings Bank,” said MetroWest YMCA President and CEO Rick MacPherson. “Together, we will make our vision a reality for thousands of local children and families, while ensuring that our Y will continue to respond to and address existing and emerging community needs for decades to come.”

For more than a century, the MetroWest YMCA, has responded to community needs in the MetroWest area and made a significant impact throughout Framingham and the surrounding towns. Annually more than 25,000 children, adults and seniors living and working in MetroWest communities are served by the Y.

Anne Madara, Chair of the Y’s Board of Directors echoed this sentiment, “The support of Middlesex Savings Bank means a great deal to all of us. We take pride that our Y is one of the most diverse front doors in the community, bringing together people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and ethnicities. The Y is more than a community center, it is the center of community, and this renovation and expansion will help the Y continue to build bridges and serve thousands of local families every year.”
