Middlesex announced additional distribution of emergency funding to non-profit organizations impacted by COVID-19. In late March, the Bank had announced that it had earmarked $1 million for this effort to be distributed through its charitable foundation, the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation.
An initial grant of $100,000 was directed to the MetroWest Emergency Relief Fund, which is awarding one-time operating grants to nonprofits addressing the most immediate needs. The Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation is now making grants between $10,000 and $20,000 to the following non-profits:
“For Bethany Hill Place residents, food security, loss of wages, mental health issues made worse by isolation, and lack of internet access are all challenges that our residents faced before the COVID-19 pandemic, but are now being magnified,” said Trish Appert, executive director of Bethany Hill Place. “The Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation has been wonderfully responsive and thoughtful about the needs on the frontlines and the nonprofits working to alleviate poverty. I am very grateful for Middlesex's generosity in supporting us during this extraordinary time."
“SMOC is very grateful to have received a grant from the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation to assist people in our communities during the COVID-19 crisis,” said Tania DiDuca, SMOC’s chief of staff. “With this grant, we will be able to offer families and individuals access to financial assistance for rental and utility arrears, certain moving expenses, and basic needs such as food and cleaning supplies. Anticipating that the number of people seeking assistance will continue to grow and that the needs may fluctuate over time, creating programs that can be utilized in a variety of ways is essential.”
