Patty Chambers was honored as a member of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women's 2017 class of Unsung Heroines. Representative Kate Hogan recommended Patty for this recognition because of her continued leadership and volunteer efforts in the Maynard community.
Patty was honored with the other Unsung Heroines for her outstanding contributions to her community and numerous non-profit organizations in a ceremony on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 held in the Great Hall at the State House in Boston.
Patty is vice president and regional branch manager of Middlesex Savings Bank in Maynard, and has been with the bank in various roles since 1977. A highly sought after leader and volunteer in the Maynard community, she is currently a Library Trustee with the town of Maynard and is a member of the Friends of the Maynard Public Library. She was a Corporator with Emerson Hospital, and had previously served on the town's Finance and Facilities Committees as well as the Board of Directors of the Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce. Chambers, currently the co-chairperson of the Board of Directors of Open Table, was instrumental in bringing Open Table community meals and food pantries to its new permanent home in downtown Maynard. She is also active with Relay for Life.
The Unsung Heroines are women who do not make the news, but make the difference. They are the women who use their time, talent, and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and make a difference in their neighborhoods, cities, and towns. They are mentors, volunteers, and innovators who do what needs to be done without expectations of recognition or gratitude. These women are the glue that keeps a community together and every community is better because of their contribution.
The ceremony included a program emceed by MCSW Chair Margot Parrot, acknowledging each of the 2017 Unsung Heroines, along with remarks from Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo, Senate President Stanley C. Rosenberg and Representative Colleen M. Garry, Co-Chair of the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators.
