2017 has certainly been a very interesting year.  Record highs on Wall Street.  Strong employment locally and nationally, healthy consumer spending and growing consumer confidence.  Is everything as wonderful as it appears?

Geri Denterlein, founder and CEO of Denterlein

Drawing on 30 years experience, Geri provides executive-level counsel to businesses, nonprofits, colleges, and healthcare organizations. Guided by the belief that communications services must be aligned with a client’s business plan, Geri brings corporate expertise to each assignment.

Prior to serving as a consultant, Geri was editorial director at WBZ television, where she was responsible for the station’s government outreach, as well as on-air political analysis. Geri also has governmental experience including terms as communications director for the Departments of Mental Health and as an associate press secretary for former Governor Michael S. Dukakis.

Geri is a popular commentator on the subjects of politics, leadership, and power, appearing on WBZ-TV, WCVB, NECN, and Fox News. She has also been a featured speaker at the Massachusetts Women’s Conference, the Boston Chamber of Commerce, the Boston Women’s Bar Association, and many local professional conferences and universities. Geri’s work has appeared in national publications, including Inc. Magazine.

Geri serves on numerous civic and nonprofit boards including MassINC, A Better City, and the Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts. She is a trustee of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, Friends of Mount Auburn, and Belmont Hill School. In January 2010, she was elected Chair of the Metro Managers Chairman’s Group, comprised of the 45 largest Red Cross chapters in the country and, in early 2012, Geri was also appointed to a newly formed Red Cross leadership group, the National Philanthropy Board.

She is the author of the guidebook The Power Chicks’ Guide to Boston: In their own words, a compendium of advice to young professional women on the subjects of leadership, power, and the value of civic engagement.




Ryan Kim, partner, Castle Island Partners

Ryan has extensive experience as a private equity investor and operating executive. He founded Castle Island Partners in 2006 to focus on helping companies in the lower middle market to achieve their full potential, leveraging his decade of experience from larger investment firms such as Bain Capital, Parthenon Capital and DLJ Merchant Banking.

Prior to founding Castle Island Partners, Ryan was a senior investment professional with Parthenon Capital, a $2 billion private equity firm with offices in Boston and San Francisco. At Parthenon Capital, he co-headed the firm’s consumer products and distribution industry groups. Working in the private equity group of Bain Capital, he closed several transactions in the branded food and beverage industry. Ryan began his investing career at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette (DLJ), where he worked on private equity, debt and public equity transactions.

In addition, Ryan’s operating experience includes roles as President of Micorp, a regional provider of automotive aftermarket services and Director of Business Development for EasyLink, a publicly-traded provider of outsourced communication services. He received his AB from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.





​John Parsons, CEO, SVN Parsons Commercial Group

John has over twenty five years of professional experience in the commercial real estate industry as a real estate investor and owner, developer and founder of Parsons Commercial Group, Inc.  He has successfully built and acquired an impressive portfolio of over 30 properties totaling over 2 million square feet with a market value in excess of $200 million. His portfolio includes a complementary blend of office, industrial, retail and multi-family properties.







Barry Armstrong, founder, Armstrong Advisory Group and host of The Financial Exchange

Barry has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Each morning during the 6 o'clock hour, he begins conducting investment and economic research. His research keeps him abreast of economic trends to benefit his clients and is also used during The Financial Show each weekday. A regular contributor on WCVB TV Channel 5 and WFXT Fox 25 in Boston, as well as NECN, Barry also works with the independent financial professionals at Armstrong Advisory Group, which he founded in 2004, to serve individual investors and small businesses in New England.

Barry graduated from Pace University in New York with a B.S. in Accounting and Management. He holds his series 6, 7, 24, 63, and 65 licenses. and is licensed for Life, Accident and Health Insurance. He is a Registered Representative with Securities America, Inc. and an Investment Advisor Representative with Securities America Advisors, Inc.  Born in Canada, Barry is a US citizen and resides in Medfield, Massachusetts with his wife where they raised their five children. Over the years Barry coached his boys in hockey and cheered on his sons and daughter in lacrosse, soccer and track.




​Robert Hughes, Senior Research Fellow, American Institute for Economic Research

Bob joined AIER in 2013 following more than 25 years in economic and financial markets research on Wall Street. Bob was formerly the head of Global Equity Strategy for Brown Brothers Harriman, where he developed equity investment strategy combining top-down macro analysis with bottom-up fundamentals. Prior to BBH, he was a Senior Equity Strategist for State Street Global Markets, Senior Economic Strategist with Prudential Equity Group and Senior Economist and Financial Markets Analyst for Citicorp Investment Services. Bob has a MA in economics from Fordham University and a BS in business from Lehigh University.
