The Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation was pleased to award grants to the following organizations in its most recent grant cycle in 2011. Each of these organizations makes a unique and valuable contribution to the quality of life in our communities. Advocates, Inc. - http://www.advocatesinc.org/
- Mission – Advocates' mission is to help people achieve their hopes and dreams within the fabric of their communities. They partner with people with disabilities, elders, and those with other challenges to overcome personal obstacles and societal barriers.
- Grant – A grant of $15,000 was awarded to support the agency’s Advocacy, Benefits, & Legal Services Program by funding a Benefits Specialist and legal services at the Community Counseling Centers in Framingham and Marlborough.

- Mission – The Bernon Center at Babson College coordinates volunteer activities with local & national community agencies, thereby helping Babson develop socially responsible business leaders.
- Grant – A grant of $15,000 was awarded to support Cook’s After School Program, collaboration between the college and the Needham Housing Authority. Through this truly innovative partnership, children residing at Captain Robert Cook Drive are provided with enhanced academic support and an opportunity to gain the confidence needed to set and accomplish goals and develop positive relationships.

- Mission – To School’s mission is to provide affordable, independent housing and educational opportunities within a climate of respect, inclusion and acceptance. Through all programs, residents are empowered to progress toward their goals and to be their best selves in a safe, supportive environment.
- Grant – A grant of $15,000 was awarded to support the myriad services offered to at-risk individuals and families. Programs being supported through this grant include a Scattered Site Homeless Prevention Program, 1:1 and group computer instruction in an on-site lab, monthly workshops on life skills, financial literacy, wellness, and job preparation, monthly parenting education seminars, college & career counseling, and case management for residents w/HIV/AIDS.
Community Farms Outreach - http://communityfarms.org/
- Mission – This organization promotes local agriculture and food access through its farming and educational programs. Using sustainable practices, they encourage healthy relationships between people, their food supply, and the land from which it grows.
- Grant – A grant of $5,000 was awarded to support the Fresh Food Access Program which grows over forty varieties of vegetables on eleven acres and donates tens of thousands of pounds annually to local partner agencies, including local food banks and pantries, as well as to local farmers’ markets which are accessible to low income residents.
Foundation for MetroWest - http://www.foundationformetrowest.org/
- Mission – The Foundation connects philanthropic opportunity with demonstrated need in MetroWest. They accomplish this by promoting philanthropy, helping donors maximize the impact of their giving, serving as a resource for nonprofits, and enhancing the quality of life in the region.
- Grant – A grant of $10,000 was awarded to support the Foundation’s nonprofit capacity building training program which includes seminars for non-profits and non-profit boards, as well as special sessions for non-profit Board chairs.

- Mission – The mission of Summer Scene is to provide quality summer education to all Framingham youth entering grades K-8.
- Grant – A grant of $4,000 was awarded to provide tuition assistance to children of families who would otherwise not be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
MetroWest Legal Services - http://www.mwlegal.org/
- Mission – MWLS provides free legal advocacy in civil cases to protect and advance the rights of the poor, elderly, and disabled in its service area so they may obtain legal, social and economic justice.
- Grant – A grant of $15,000 was awarded to assist MWLS in providing over 200 victims with legal assistance through its Domestic Violence Project (DVP). Services to be provided will include advice, brief service, referral to the Pro Bono Panel and full representation. During the year, DVP staff will also make six outreach presentations to community groups, including support groups for victims.
MetroWest Outreach Connection - http://www.mwoconnection.org/
- Mission – The mission of the Outreach Connection is to prevent homelessness and to provide financial assistance to victims of domestic violence.
- Grant – A grant of $10,000 was awarded to support the organization’s Homeless Prevention Program, the primary focus of which is to provide financial assistance to low-income families with children who are facing imminent eviction.
Natick Service Council - http://www.natickservicecouncil.org/
- Mission – Natick Service Council (NSC) provides a broad range of services to help the most economically disadvantaged within Natick move beyond the cycle of poverty. NSC’s purpose is to help promote self-sufficiency among those most at risk.
- Grant – A grant of $10,000 was awarded to support the Council’s food pantry, which services 750 families each month.
South Middlesex Opportunity Council - http://www.smoc.org/
- Mission – Founded in 1965 and based in Framingham, SMOC is a nonprofit committed to mobilizing and utilizing public and private resources to advocate for and to improve the quality of life for low-income people in the MetroWest region.
- Grant – A grant of $10,000 was awarded to support increased capacity of SMOC’s adult education programs at the MetroWest Career Center, and specifically for its GED program.
The Discovery Museums - http://www.discoverymuseums.org/
- Mission – For those of you who may have had occasion to visit the Museums, you know that this organization seeks to inspire enduring curiosity and love of learning through interactive discovery, hands-on inquiry and scientific investigation.
- Grant – A capacity building grant of $5,000 was awarded to allow the Museum to make needed investment in its fundraising infrastructure as it prepares to launch a capital campaign.
Walker School - http://walkerschool.org/
- Mission – Walker is a comprehensive network of special education and mental health services that provides intensive therapeutic and academic programs for hundreds of children, adolescents and their families at Walker campuses and throughout the community.
- Grant – A grant of $10,000 was awarded support Walker’s Comforts of Home project, designed to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for residential children who come to Walker without the support, and sometimes without the involvement of a family.
