Middlesex helps engineer financial support to help local businesswoman.
“You cannot do it by yourself. You need to surround
yourself with the best people you can. Middlesex was the best choice for us.” Janice Guy, President, P3I.
When retired U.S. Marine Corps Major Janice P. Guy wanted to start a business that provides engineering support to the federal government, she tapped the resources of the Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA played a pivotal role in helping her develop a business plan and financial projections, and then recommending a financial institution that was willing to complete the necessary paperwork to put her plan into action. That was Middlesex. “Middlesex was willing to do what a lot of banks wouldn’t do – help us work through the process and make a financial commitment to our business,” adds Guy, President and CEO of the company, P3I.
It wasn’t hard for the bank to see the value of Janice and the business. Having served in the Marine Corps, she knew how the Department of Defense worked and had the engineering expertise through her experience in the Marines and through work in the private sector. Middlesex was willing to make a commitment to her business and it would be one that would pay off for both Middlesex Savings Bank and P3I.
“At the time she applied for the SBA Loan, she had just four employees in 1,500 square feet of office space. Today, Janice and her company have enjoyed tremendous growth and success,” says Bill Lucas, Middlesex Savings Bank Commercial Loan Officer. It’s not hard to see why P3I has nearly 100 employees – communications and system engineers, analysts, program managers, and logisticians – who work on location for various government agencies. It experienced explosive growth in 2003, when the company won a contract to provide information technology to the Department of Treasury’s Cambridge Office – a $28 million dollar contract that resulted in the hiring of 10 people. But it hasn’t stopped there. P3I continues to steadily grow every year.
The success of the company has earned much recognition for Janice Guy. She was honored as the 2004 Massachusetts Minority Small Business Person of the Year. To achieve the success she has enjoyed, she has listened and made good judgments. And one of the most important ones was her decision to choose Middlesex Savings Bank. “You cannot do it by yourself. You need to surround yourself with the best people you can. Middlesex was the best choice for us,” adds Guy.
Headquartered in Hopkinton, MA, P3I provides systems engineering services to the Department of Defense and Department of Transportation.
